Blumhouse is an American horror-film production company founded in 2000. It championed a bare-bones approach to film-making, providing directors with tight budgets, creative freedom and attractive back-end terms should a film prove a hit. Its president is Abhijay Prakash.
Blumhouse struck gold in 2007 with "Paranormal Activity", which earned more than $290m and spawned six sequels. The company followed it with an array of popular franchises, including "The Purge" and "Insidious", as well as critical darlings such as "Get Out". Its model demonstrated that horror films could be cheap and effective without stars or elaborate visual effects.
