Ivanhoe Mines is a Canadian mining firm that jointly operates one of the Democratic Republic of Congo's largest mines. It was founded by Robert Friedland, who says "Without the African continent all is lost" in the race to secure critical minerals. In 2025 the Qatar Investment Authority, a sovereign-wealth fund, took a $500m stake in Ivanhoe.
