American AI startup that has sought to disrupt the search business long dominated by Google. Its latest fundraising round reportedly valued the company at close to $14bn—more than 400 times its 2024 revenue of $34m. In 2024 Perplexity burned around $65m of cash.
Perplexity has launched an agent-powered browser that can track flights, fetch documents and manage email—part of a wider push towards an agentic web in which AI agents, rather than humans, navigate online services. In November 2025 Amazon sued Perplexity, alleging the startup was violating its terms of service by failing to disclose that its browser was shopping instead of a real person. Perplexity denies the allegation.
