German industrial conglomerate. In 2020 it sold its highly profitable elevator unit, TKE, to a consortium led by Advent and Cinven for €17.2bn. On April 29th 2026 Finland's Kone announced it would combine with TKE to form the world's biggest liftmaker, paying €5bn in cash and €15.2bn-worth of shares. Thyssenkrupp used the elevator sale proceeds to reduce its gigantic debts. Miguel Lopez, chief executive since 2023, launched a restructuring plan in May 2025. In October 2025 he spun off Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, a maker of submarines. He wants the group's remaining divisions to become independent businesses under a slim holding structure. The steel unit will probably be sold: Thyssenkrupp has been in talks for months with Naveen Jindal, an Indian billionaire.
