China's agency for human space flight, which plans to land taikonauts on the Moon by 2030. The original plan was to launch Apollo-style on a single rocket, Long March 9, but engineers appear to have lost confidence in that vehicle and the agency will instead use two smaller Long March 10 rockets, avoiding the need for orbital refuelling. One will carry Mengzhou ("dream vessel"), a three-person capsule that was tested uncrewed in 2020; the other will lift Lanyue ("grasping the Moon"), the lunar lander. Taikonauts will board the lander in lunar orbit.
In August 2025 the CMSA suspended the Lanyue lander between six tall steel towers in Hebei province and conducted a successful simulated landing and take-off. Long March 10 has yet to fly, and Mengzhou has not gone beyond low-Earth orbit, but the CMSA's approach—a squat, spidery lander—looks less technically risky than NASA's Artemis architecture.
