IFAW is an international animal-welfare organisation. It organised the translocation of 263 elephants from Liwonde National Park to Kasungu National Park in Malawi in July 2022, on behalf of Malawi's government. The move led to deadly clashes between elephants and local farmers, and some victims are considering a group-action negligence claim against the fund in a British court—the first of its kind against an animal-welfare organisation. IFAW says translocations have long been an established tool of wildlife conservation in Malawi and that it has worked closely with communities near Kasungu to improve their livelihoods.
