Gabriel Attal is a French centrist politician who heads Renaissance, Emmanuel Macron's party. Mr Macron named him prime minister of France in 2024 at the age of 34. During the political crisis of October 2025, after Sébastien Lecornu's resignation, Mr Attal declared bluntly: "I no longer understand the president's decisions."
As of April 2026 Mr Attal is expected to stand for the 2027 presidential election, though polls put him behind Edouard Philippe as a centrist candidate. On April 23rd 2026 he published a book entitled "As a Free Man"—both an effort to distance himself from Mr Macron and a prelude to a presidential bid.
