Gyunduz Mamedov was deputy prosecutor general of Ukraine from 2019 to 2022. During that period he established the War Crimes Department, which led Ukraine's first co-ordinated investigations of international crimes. He began collecting evidence of Russian war crimes in 2016, working first as a prosecutor on Crimea, then in the Donbas. Since 2022 he has served as an officer in the Ukrainian army, advising front-line commanders and working in battlefield forensics.
Life is a serious burden, which no thinking, humane person would wantonly inflict on someone else.
