Ken Griffin

Ken Griffin is the founder and boss of Citadel, the most profitable hedge-fund manager of all time. He is a major Republican donor. He moved Citadel from Chicago to Miami in 2022.

A 54-storey tower under construction on the Brickell waterfront in Miami will serve as Citadel's headquarters and become Florida's tallest building.

Griffin allocates capital across asset classes and to portfolio managers who operate autonomously within risk limits he sets at the centre. He has said he is wary of expanding into private credit, preferring to become "a better equity investor". He has argued that hedge funds care more about systemic risk management than banks because they lack the safety net of deposit insurance and government bail-outs.

Griffin owns a $238m apartment in New York City, though he is based in Miami.

On the Treasury market, Griffin has suggested that regulators concerned about leveraged hedge-fund trades should impose a positive haircut of 2% on bank lending to hedge funds against Treasuries. He has warned that America's reserve-currency status is "intertwined with the sense that under American law, you will be treated fairly."
