Massad Boulos is a senior adviser on Africa to President Donald Trump, and father-in-law to Trump's youngest daughter. In April 2025 he visited the Great Lakes region of central Africa, emphasising business rather than human rights. He insisted that Rwanda must stop supporting M23 and withdraw its soldiers from eastern Congo. Ahead of his visit M23 withdrew from Walikale, the site of an American tin mine.
Boulos has also been central to diplomacy on Sudan and Nigeria. He hosted officials from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE at peace talks on Sudan in Washington in late October 2025, with delegations from both the SAF and the RSF present. On Nigeria, he acknowledged that "people of all religions and of all tribes are dying", pushing back on the narrative of a specifically Christian genocide.
