First Lady of the United States, wife of Donald Trump. She is 55 years old and 24 years younger than her husband. She is a former fashion model and the first naturalised immigrant to serve as First Lady.
Mrs Trump has publicly stated her support for a right to abortion, placing her at odds with her husband's position. Of the attack on the Capitol by her husband's supporters on January 6th 2021, she wrote in her 2024 memoir, insistently branded "Melania": "The violence we witnessed was unequivocally unacceptable." She said her failure to denounce the violence as it was raging was because she "wasn't aware of the events."
Mrs Trump has lived away from the White House for much of the time and vanished from public view for long stretches. She has seldom appeared at rallies, seeming more naturally at home in a Trump tower than at a Trump rally. She has shown interest in policy causes at a remove from her husband's priorities, taking up the cause of cyberbullying while acknowledging that she "had anticipated some criticism in light of Donald's social media behaviour."
Mrs Trump calls financial independence "a core value" in her memoir. She pitched a documentary about herself to Jeff Bezos over dinner, and Amazon offered close to three times more than any other bidder—$40m—according to the Wall Street Journal. Mrs Trump reportedly kept at least $28m as a fee, along with editorial control. Amazon is spending $35m to promote the film.
