Economist at Brown University. He was awarded the Nobel prize in economics on October 13th 2025, sharing half the prize with Philippe Aghion. The other half went to Joel Mokyr. Their joint work has made big contributions to researchers' understanding of how economic growth happens, including the role of "creative destruction"—the process by which old firms die and new ones grow, a concept originated by Joseph Schumpeter—as the foundation of economic growth.
