Sir Philip Pullman is a British author best known for the "His Dark Materials" and "The Book of Dust" trilogies, which together have sold some 50m copies worldwide and been adapted for stage and screen. His heroine, Lyra Belacqua, first appeared in "Northern Lights" (1995). The series is a polemic against organised religion in much the same way that C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" was a pro-Christian allegory.
The "His Dark Materials" trilogy was followed by "The Book of Dust": "La Belle Sauvage" (2017), "The Secret Commonwealth" (2019) and "The Rose Field", which Sir Philip has said will be Lyra's final adventure. Six novels spanning 30 years.
